Rebuilding a Software Leader

Managed Solutions & Advisory Services at iManage

Challenge: When the founders of iManage, a global leader in document management software, bought their business back from HP, they brought with them most of the original, core engineering group. However, in order to meet the existing and expected client demand, they needed to hire 130+ additional technologists. The remaining core business functions – Operations, HR, Legal – were effectively those of a 20-year-old start-up - non-existent. Together, we set out to assess the organization's vision and evolving culture, map and hire team leaders, support the talent team in engaging the most innovative professionals to foster growth, and create and enact hiring consistencies throughout the organization.

Action: Waterstone wove elements of our Advisory work into our Managed Services: enacting interview training, competency mapping, internship programs, college recruiting, and workforce assessment to identify gaps in skills and training. With access to Waterstone's network of technology leaders and relationships with local, research university faculty, iManage rebranded and aligned itself with the most relevant candidate pools. With Waterstone handling full cycle recruitment, iManage executives were afforded the chance to speak with the market's best candidates, not simply the inbound or available.

Result: In Waterstone's Managed Services, iManage found a true partner to help rebuild their company at scale, and with a sense of urgency. After the fourteen-month engagement, iManage experienced exponential growth, doubled their team via the hiring of 128 employees across all company functions (Engineering, UX, Legal, Finance, HR, Operations, Customer Success, Product), and at all levels, from summer interns to the C-Suite.
